API Tokens, Extension Keys, and Mobile SDK Keys

Written by Jon

How to generate the access keys developers need to use the Userback API, browser extension, or mobile SDK. Userback has three separate credential types, each created from its own tab in Workspace Settings, and each with its own creation modal.

Create an API Token

API Tokens authenticate calls to the Userback REST API, so you can automate tasks and pull feedback data programmatically. See the REST API docs for endpoints and examples.

  1. Go to Workspace Settings > API Token.

  2. Click + Create.

  3. Enter a Label to identify what the token is for.

  4. Click Create.

Your API Tokens table shows every token's label, last-accessed date, and who created it. Delete a token with the trash icon in its row.

Create an Extension Key

Extension Keys let someone submit feedback through the browser extension without being a full workspace member, useful for clients or short-term contributors. See the browser extension guide for how it's used.

  1. Go to Workspace Settings > Extension Key.

  2. Click + Create.

  3. Choose a Site from the dropdown and enter a Label.

  4. Click Create.

Create a Mobile SDK Key

Mobile SDK keys are required to install the Userback Mobile SDK on iOS, Android, or React Native. See the Mobile SDK docs for installation instructions and GitHub repos.

  1. Go to Workspace Settings > Mobile SDK Key.

  2. Click + Create.

  3. Use Select Sites to choose one or more sites the key should apply to, and enter a Label.

  4. Click Create.

Which key do you actually need?

If you're not sure which of these, or the widget's own access token, applies to your task, see Access Tokens, Site Keys, and API Keys: What's the Difference?
