Troubleshoot: Recording Stops or Resets When Navigating Pages

Why a screen recording stops when a user moves to another page, and three ways to keep it running across pages.

Written by Jon

When someone records their screen with the Userback widget, the recording runs inside the page. If moving to another page triggers a full page load, Userback loads again from scratch and the recording ends. Pick the solution that fits your site.

Solution 1: Your site is a single-page application

Single-page applications (SPAs), such as most React, Vue.js, and Angular apps, change pages without a full reload. Install Userback with the script tag method, which creates the widget with init(), and it stays active as users move around. See Install the Userback Widget on Your Website.

Solution 2: Use the browser extension

The Userback browser extension records with the browser itself, so recording continues across page loads on any site. It's the easiest option if your site isn't an SPA. See Installing the Userback Browser Extension.

Solution 3: Keep Userback loaded with a server-side change

If your site isn't an SPA and you can't use the extension, a developer can change your server-side code so the Userback script stays loaded when the page changes. This is the most complex option and needs an experienced developer.
