The Userback Survey is a proactive method for collecting user feedback that automatically activates based on specific criteria, such as user interactions or behaviors on a website or app. Customizing the survey ensures it aligns with your goals, improving feedback quality.
This guide shows you how to customize the Userback Survey using the Survey Designer.
How to Create a Survey
Creating a survey is simple with two options: use a template or start from scratch, both customizable to fit your data needs.
Step 1: Click "+Create," select a survey project, and choose a template or create from scratch.
Step 2: Name your survey and set the project domain for the Userback code (editable later). If starting from scratch, use the Survey Canvas to add questions, project name, and domain.
How to Edit Your Survey
Go to 'Edit Survey' in the right panel of the overview page.
Customize your survey's Appearance, Rules, Questions, Welcome and Thank You pages, question order, and Branding.
Click 'Save'
Using the Userback Survey Editor
In the Survey Editor, you can customize the appearance and behavior, preview it, send test feedback, and access installation options. These options are split up into the following four tabs:

Questions are key to gaining user insights. Including welcome and thank-you tiles ensure a smooth experience, while strategically placed questions maintain engagement.
Components:
Click the "Add" button and choose the desired question type from the list provided.
Adjust the question text and other settings located on the right-hand side.
Welcome - Intro Message: Add an introduction or welcome to your survey. This is a great way to provide context to the user and frame the questions you’ll be asking them. It can help with receiving much better responses due to users better understanding the purpose of the survey.
Open Question - Short Answer: This allows your users to provide a short written answer response to your question. You can make this a required response, add a 'Hint Text', have a required minimum and maximum character limit, or limit the answer to a number only.
Open Question - Long Answer: This allows your users to provide a longer written answer response to your question. You can make this a required response, add a 'Hint Text', or have a required minimum and maximum character limit.
Selection - Yes or No: Allows your users to respond yes or no to your question. You can make this a required response and change the layout from vertical to horizontal.
Selection - Multiple Choice: Allows your users to pick from answers that you have set. You can make this a required response, change the layout from vertical to horizontal, and allow for more than one answer to be selected by the user.
Selection - Dropdown: Allows your users to select an answer from a drop-down list that you set. You can make this a required response.
Rating Scale - Thumbs: Allows your user to respond thumbs up or down to your question. You can make this a required response.
Rating Scale - Faces: Allows your user to express how they feel in response to your question from 5 facial expression emojis. You can make this a required response.
Rating Scale - Stars: Allows your users to provide a star rating to your question. You can change the scale from either 5 stars or 10 stars and make this a required response.
Rating Scale - Hearts: Allows your users to provide a heart rating to your question. You can change the scale from either 5 hearts or 10 hearts and make this a required response.
Rating Scale - Numbers: Allows your users to provide a numbered rating to your question. You can change the scale from either 5 or 10, make this a required response, and add labels, ie. 1=not satisfied and 5=very satisfied.
Rating Scale - Net Promoter Score ®: Allows your user to rate from 0-10 in response to your question. You can make this a required response, and add labels, ie. 1=not satisfied and 5=very satisfied.
Ends With - Thankyou Message: After the survey, a thank-you message can be added to show gratitude towards participants, offering closure and leaving a positive impact that encourages future engagement.

Appearance
Layout:
Format: Paged format allows you to have one question displayed at a time. Pageless Format allows you to display all the questions on one single page.
Position: Only available for Paged Format Surveys. Allows you to dictate the location where your survey will be displayed on your site. If you have a Feedback widget and a survey on the same site please be mindful as to the location of the survey launcher (don't put it over the top of the feedback widget)
Size: Only available for Paged Format Surveys. Allows you to change the width of the survey form on your site.
Alignment: Changed the text alignment within the form.
Colors:
Highlight Color: Adjust the color used in buttons and links.
Complementary Color: Adjust the color of the text and icons displayed on the Highlight color.
Background Overlay: Add a background behind your form and adjust the color and transparency.
Powered by Userback:
To remove the "Powered by Userback" branding from your survey, you'll need to upgrade to the Scale, Company, or Premium plans.

Close Button: Add a close button to the survey to allow your respondents to leave the survey at any time.
Required Indicator: Marks the set of required questions with a red asterisk.
Page Number: Only available on Paged Format. The page number will help your respondents see the progress of the survey.
Button Text:
Change the text for the Submit, Next, and Back navigation buttons on your survey.
Security:
Add an extra layer of security by using Captcha on your survey form. This helps prevent bot attacks and unwanted spam results.
Target
Domains:
Set the domains for where you want the widget code installed. See more information here.
Segments:
Define who can see the launcher. Options include all users or a specific segment of users, which is defined in your User database and Segments.
Pages:
Specify the placement of the survey form. Choose to display it on all pages where the code is installed, or on specific pages based on their URLs.
Devices:
Choose the device or devices where the survey form will appear for optimal visibility. Select from Desktop, Tablet, or Phone.
Trigger:
Set your survey to appear with a time-based trigger, element click, or rage click, or use our JavaScript SDK to trigger the survey with a specific command.
Next, define when the survey should stop displaying. You can choose to stop after the form is submitted and restart after a set number of days, display it only once, or keep it visible indefinitely.
Survey Preview
Before saving your survey, preview it to see how it will look to customers. From the overview page, check that the welcome message sets the right tone, questions are clear, and order is logical. Ensure the design is appealing, it’s not too distracting, and it displays well on various screen sizes. You can also test the survey on a staging environment across multiple pages. When satisfied, install the code on your website and activate it from the Overview page.
Survey Install
Activating your survey is a simple process! After saving your survey and adding in Userback Code to your site, go to the survey overview and click activate. From there, you can choose to activate your survey immediately or schedule it for a later date and time. You also have the option to select a specific end date for the survey.

How to Edit the Order of Questions
The Survey designer allows you to effortlessly drag and drop your questions in any sequence you desire. You can also duplicate, change question type, or delete questions using the ellipsis menu next to each question.
Choose the question you wish to move from the list on the right-hand side. Click and hold the question when you see the move cursor.
Drag the question to your preferred location and release it to drop it into place.
Once you're happy with the layout, click "Save" in the top right corner, then install the code and activate your survey.
Share the Survey via a link
To share your survey with someone directly, simply copy the URL from the Project Overview Page. This feature is particularly handy if you wish to distribute your survey to your email subscribers.
How to Add Branding to your Survey
Adding your branding is a vital final step in customizing your survey to reflect your company's identity. To do this, go to the Intro Questions in the survey designer, toggle on the logo option, and upload your company logo (max width: 256px, max height: 48px).
