Create and Edit Your Feedback Widget

How to open the widget editor and configure its appearance, form fields, feedback types, and other components.

Written by Jon

The feedback widget is the popup your site visitors use to report a bug, share an idea, or leave general feedback. Everything about how it looks and behaves is controlled from one editor, split across several tabs.

Open the widget editor

Go to Feedback > Settings > Widget. The editor has four top-level tabs: Design, Target, Preview, and Install. Design itself is split into six sub-tabs, covered below.

Appearance

Under Design > Appearance, set:

  • Colors: UI Theme (Light, Dark, or Browser Default), Highlight Color, and Complementary Color.

  • Launcher: Whether the launcher is an icon or a text button, which icon it uses, and where it sits on the page (a position grid, plus side and bottom spacing).

Changes show up immediately in the live preview in the center of the editor.

Form fields

Under Design > Form > Fields, you control which fields appear on the widget's submission form, starting with Header, Name, Email, and Description.

To add more fields, for example Rating, Category, or a fully custom field, see Add a Custom Field to Your Widget, which covers the Add field dropdown and its eight field types in full.

This same tab also has a Tools section for turning Screenshot, Screen Recording, and Attachment options on or off for reporters, and a section for customizing the form's button text.

Feedback types

Under Design > Feedback Types, AI Assist is on by default: it automatically classifies incoming feedback as a bug, task, idea, or general feedback, so reporters don't have to pick a type themselves.

Turning AI Assist off reveals manual configuration instead: checkboxes for which types are available, a label for each, and a default value.

For how AI Assist's classification actually works, see the AI Features article rather than this one.

Components

Under Design > Components, toggle which extra tabs appear alongside the main feedback form inside the widget: Ideas Portal, Roadmap, Announcements, and Custom Link.

There's also a checkbox to hide the "Powered by Userback" branding line.

Worth knowing before you click around: the Ideas Portal, Roadmap, and Announcements rows, once expanded, each show a link (for example "🔗 Portal") that opens that resource's live, public-facing page, not a preview or a settings screen.

Clicking it while you're exploring the editor takes you off the settings page entirely. Custom Link works the same way once you've entered your own URL: give it a Label, a URL, and choose whether it opens by redirecting the current page or opening a new browser tab.

More

Under Design > More, you'll find:

  • Language: A dropdown that sets the widget's display language. See Translate Your Widget, Surveys, and Ideas Portal for what this covers and what doesn't.

  • Media: Auto-screenshot behavior and the maximum length for screen recordings.

  • Tracking: Session replay, developer-tools log capture, and event tracking.

  • Security: An hCaptcha option.

Preview and install

Use Preview to see and interact with the widget exactly as a visitor would, including submitting a real test item.

For Install, the fastest path to your site's access token and framework-specific code is the left-nav </> Install Userback item, not this tab. The Install tab here shows the same information as a secondary path.

See Install the Userback Widget on Your Website for the full walkthrough of every install method.
