An Ideas Portal works when customers can find it, see their ideas acknowledged, and watch requests turn into shipped features. These practices help you get there.
Put the portal where customers already are
If you use the Userback widget, turn on the Ideas Portal, Roadmap, and Announcements components so customers can suggest ideas, check the roadmap, and read updates without leaving your app.
See Create and Edit Your Feedback Widget. Also link the portal from your website, help center, and release emails.
Give one person ownership
Portals stall when nobody is responsible for them. Choose a portal owner and automatically assign new ideas to them. Their job:
Reply to new ideas promptly, for example "Thanks for this suggestion, we're reviewing it."
Ask for detail when an idea is vague: "Can you tell us how this would help your workflow?"
Point customers to similar existing ideas so votes gather in one place.
Keep it tidy
Review new ideas before they go public by leaving automatic publishing off for sources that need checking. See Publish Feedback to Your Ideas Portal.
Merge duplicates. Check the Similar Feedback section on each idea, and use Merge Duplicates to combine them. See Categorize and Merge Duplicate Feedback.
Close out old or out-of-scope requests.
Use categories so customers can browse the areas they care about.
Keep the roadmap honest
Map your internal statuses to simple public ones. For example, show "In Development" as "Coming Soon". See Configure Your Ideas Portal Settings.
Update statuses as work moves, so the roadmap reflects reality.
Use votes and comments as evidence, alongside your business goals, when you prioritize.
A current roadmap sets expectations and cuts down on "when is this coming?" questions.
Announce what ships
Post an announcement for each meaningful release, with a clear title, a short explanation, an image, and an action button like "Try it now". Share the announcement link in emails and on social media, and show announcements in the widget. See Portal Announcements.
Close the loop with voters
When you resolve an idea, send the voter notification email. Everyone who voted hears it shipped, which shows their input mattered and brings them back to suggest the next thing.
