Start a new survey

From the Surveys section in the left nav, click + Create. You can start from a pre-built template or choose Start from scratch; see Survey Templates for what each template measures.

Give your survey an internal name so you can find it later in the survey list.

Creating the survey drops you into the survey builder, opened from that survey's Overview tab via the Edit Survey button any time you want to come back to it.

Build your survey in the Design tab

The builder's Design tab has three sub-tabs: Questions, Appearance, and More.

  1. Add your questions. In the Questions sub-tab, use the Add component dropdown at the top to add a question.

For what each question type looks like and its settings, see Survey Question Types Reference rather than guessing from the dropdown alone.

  2. Order your questions. Drag and drop questions into the sequence you want. Use the menu on each question to duplicate or delete it.

  3. Set your appearance. In the Appearance sub-tab, choose a paged or pageless layout, set the survey's on-screen position and size, align text, and set highlight and overlay colors. If you add a logo, keep it within 256px wide by 48px tall.

  4. Check More for extra settings. The More sub-tab holds additional options such as a close button, marking required questions, page numbering, custom button text, and CAPTCHA.

Confirm these against your own builder, since this list wasn't re-verified against a current screenshot for this rewrite.

Preview before you save

Use the Preview tab to click through the survey as a respondent would, before it's live. Check that the welcome tile sets the right tone, each question reads clearly, and the order makes sense end to end.

What's next: Target, Install, and Activate

Building the survey is only step one. Before it collects responses you still need to decide who sees it and where, add it to your site, and turn it on.
