Connect Userback with Slack

How to turn a Slack message into a Userback feedback item using the Userback Slack app.

Written by Jon

Not the same as Connect Userback with Slack.

This article covers one direction only: turning a Slack message into a feedback item in Userback. If you're instead looking to have Userback notifications (new feedback, status changes, and so on) show up in a Slack channel, that's the opposite direction and it's covered in Connect Userback with Slack. You may well want both, but they're separate setups.

Install the Slack app

  1. Find the Userback app in the Slack Marketplace and select Open in Slack.

  2. Follow the prompts to connect your Slack workspace to your Userback account.

  3. On any Slack message, open the ⋯ (more actions) menu, choose Connect to apps, and search for Userback.

  4. Click Connect to Slack and approve the requested permissions.

Each team member who wants to send feedback from Slack needs to install and connect the app individually; this isn't a one-time, workspace-wide setup.

Turn a message into feedback

  1. On the Slack message you want to log, open the ⋯ menu, choose Connect to Apps, then Create feedback in Userback.

  2. In the modal that opens, choose the Site the feedback belongs to.

  3. Let AI summarize the message automatically, or edit the title and description yourself.

  4. Set any other fields you want, like priority or assignee.

  5. Click Send.

You can also type /userback create in Slack to open the same feedback modal without starting from a specific message.

For a threaded conversation, use Reply in thread to have AI summarize the original message together with up to 10 replies, if your AI feature package includes this.

What shows up in Userback

The resulting feedback item includes the original Slack message, any files attached to it, and a link back to the Slack thread, so anyone on your team can jump back to the full conversation for context.
